He was born in milan ohio 1847. Young tom only attended school for a total of 3 months. When he got older his mother taught him how to to read, from then on, tom was a avid reader. As a young man, tom set up his first laboratory in his parents basment. Wherever he went he experamented. When he was 12, he went to work for the railroad. at that time, the telegraph was used to send messages along the railroad line. Tom invented a way to send two messages at the same time. By the time he was 15, tom was put in charge of a telegraph offic. Edison moved to boston when he was 21. while working as a telegraph operator, he made inprovments to the telegraph. He also invented a machine for printing stock quotes. He sold those inventions for 40,000 dollers. Tom used the money to set up his own laboratory in newark new jersey 1876. Soon edison moved his laboratory to menlo park, new jersey.
